Some important changes to employment law are coming soon. On 1 October 2015 the following changes are coming into effect:
- Employment tribunals will lose the right to make wider recommendations in discrimination cases. They will only be able to make such recommendations when they relate to the individual claimant.
- Subject to certain exclusions, self-employed people will become exempt from health & safety laws if they do not have any staff.
- The National Minimum Wage increases (adult rate to increase from £6.50 to £6.70).
- The right for Sikhs to wear turbans, rather than safety helmets when they are on a building site, will apply to all workplaces.
